What is a Pre Med program?

I want to attend Mount Vernon Nazarene University when i graduate high school in two years but they only offer a pre med program. What exactly is that and can i still become a pediatricain or pediatric specialist with a pre med degree? If i don't go to Mount Vernon what other schools do you recommend.. i was looking into ohio state but it seemed expensive and hard to get into...any tips?
