First time renting a hotel?

My boyfriend will be coming in this month, we are both 19. We would like to get away from my parents for the day and rent a decent, inexpensive place for the day. My mother is kind of nosey when it comes to what I purchase.. I am perfectly fine with showing my i.d at the front desk, but I am going to pay with cash. I have been researching about showing your credit card for security purposes, but I have been paranoid about the hotel sending me any brochures or discounts for the hotel, since I stayed there or something.. If you rent a room for the day, do you get anything in the mail like this? This may be a silly question..but I am just curious.
