Why is this shooting getting so much more media attention than other m killings?

Is it because the American media is elitist and believes that a congress person is 1000 times more important than any other person? Yes, what happened was very tragic but was it that much more tragic than all the other shootings that have occurred. Was it so much more tragic than all the other ones that the news media has been giving it 24/7 coverage for three days now whereas other shooting that have happened were barely mentioned? Furthermore, the media has been talking a whole bunch more about the congress woman who did not die than the victims who did die. Why is this?
